So I don't know about the rest of you, but Valentine's Day pretty much snuck up on Daniel and I really unexpectedly this year! I know that may sound stupid, considering it's on the same day every year (duh), but this year was a bit different for us because it was our first year celebrating as a married couple. Now before I sound too pretentious and "married," allow me to explain - our anniversary is February 3rd, then the next week is Valentine's Day, and then a week afterwards is Daniel's birthday. Too many large life celebrations happening at once! I'm bound to skip a beat on the least important one.

Anyway, that being said, we still pulled off what I would consider to be a pretty momentous V-day by taking these fun pictures, making a cutesie little homemade margherita pizza together, and having a romantic rooftop picnic on the top of our building. Daniel was so sweet and surprised me by setting out a bunch of little candles leading to the picnic (okay, he even spelled out L-O-V-E with some of them...), and set the romantic mood even further with a little bit of classic jazz. My man's got game, right? But then again, I already knew that. ;)

What about all of you? Did you do anything fun or exciting with your signif other on Valentine's Day? Or did you comically scorn it and celebrate Singles Awareness Day instead? Either way, I sincerely hope that you all went out and bought half off candy the next day. Amen. Can't wait to hear!

Top 20 Valentine's Day Picks

valentines collage

Greetings valentines! In preparation for this wonderfully mushy & pink holiday, I have prepared a little collage of what I think are some of the cutest/most delicious items that you could be sporting this 14th of February. So this is my official list...of 20 things...to wear on the 14th...this 2014. Cute how that worked out, huh? ;)

I stayed mostly in the traditional realm of pink, red, and white, but more importantly opted for all things romantic and feminine! Some of my personal favorites are the fuchsia Kate Spade dress (#9), and the black lace bodysuit from Anthropologie (#2). That's just me though; more importantly, which ones are you a fan of? If you had to pick a favorite item, which would you choose? Can't wait to hear!

one whole year.

February 3rd, today is the day! It has officially been one whole year since the schmoo (Daniel) and I got hitched! In honor of this fact, I am posting some lovely pictures from our wonderful day (all wedding photos courtesy of Shea Christine). You can also see some more pictures from our special day here at Southern Weddings! Fun fact: we were actually married on the SuperBowl last year...woops? So not sorry. Our wedding was so much more momentous and fun than any football game could ever be!

So this dress was probably my absolute favorite article of clothing that I have ever owned in my entire life (DUH). However, because it was tulle (which disintegrates over long periods of time), I decided it was best for me to resell it for someone else to enjoy as opposed to it sitting in a lame box for the rest of it's existence. It was nice to know that another girl was able to afford the dress of her dreams simply because someone else had worn it. I'm actually really glad that I did that, and would encourage other brides to do it as well (unless you are super sentimentally attached to it)! However, that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it to the fullest while I wore it...and I actually ended up making it onto the top 10 wedding dresses of 2013! Too fun.

Not too much to comment on in this post other than to say that I can't believe how fast this year has flown by, and that I wish I could relive this day over and over again. There's no denying that marriage comes with a slew of it's own difficulties, but the pros far outweigh the cons. I am so thankful to have someone who loves me so unconditionally, and is eager to live life with me for the rest of his. I hope you enjoy these little glimpses into our day; be sure to check back soon for a yummy cake recipe I'm making for our anniversary! When we moved we had to get rid of the top tier of our wedding cake since it (unsurprisingly) wouldn't keep for a 55 hour drive, so we had to find another way to uphold the tradition! As for me, I'm off to go celebrate!

NYE and What I Wore...

...a month later. OKAY, so this is probably the most horrifically late post of it's time, but on New Year's DAY my computer literally died and I had to wait like 400 years to get a new one...so no judgments! Anyway, so here I am, hailing from a much newer, speedier, and updated MacBook Pro...praise!

That being said, let's get straight to the point! Here are some very belated photos of my New Year's Eve outfit:

Now, in my ideal world, a NYE outfit will always call for some sort of "not your everyday" embellishment, but in this instance I opted away from the more commonly used sequin and went for the almighty feather. I absolutely LOVE feathers, whether they are on my earrings or my dress, it doesn't much matter. Plus I have a little bit of shimmer going on in the top of my dress, so I guess I went full circle with the NYE festivity. Albeit, I may have gone just a liiittle bit overboard with the use of the fur jacket, but I had just gotten it for Christmas and was DYING to wear it/use it in a blog post! I don't think that I served it enough justice with this outfit, so it will have to make another cameo relatively soon, before our 70 degree Phoenix "winter" is snuffed out by 3 digit temperatures.

Yes, I know my nail polish is chipped and ghetto...what can I say, I'm pretty sure this comes up as one of my New Year's resolutions EVERY year, to paint/maintain/have my nails done and keep them looking feminine. However, I usually just end up embracing the fact that I have little boy nails and either neglect them altogether, or simply paint them and then forget about it. Somebody help me!

Daniel and I actually kept it pretty low key this year, because I think more than anything we were thankful to have actually just SURVIVED 2013. So many good things have happened, but it has been a year that has brought forth lots of change, to say the least. In this past year alone we: got married, got our first apartment, moved out of said apartment to a new city 2,500 miles away, left behind all of our friends, and started new jobs (to name a few of the big things). Despite this year being tough, I am confident that our hard work is going to pay off in the long run, and that things will stop being so chaotic and quarter-life-crisis(ish). In fact, 2014 is already off to a pretty good start; I actually just started a new job which I am really excited about, and excited to share with you all - but more on that later. Until then, I am thankful for a fresh start, and Happy (belated) New Years!

Since I'm a month late, I won't bother asking about New Year's resolutions, but I will ask: has anyone KEPT any of their resolutions so far? I'd love to hear!
